We went to the beach today and found a pair of gulls whose plans for the day were about the same as ours. They sat and watched the waves come in for most of the time we were there.

The rain finally subsided and we made it to the beach today. The seas were angry though.

Question for the day: What's the opposite of buyer's remorse?

Dog Ear Books is located in downtown Madison GA. Judging solely by the name, we expected a used book store. Inside, we found quite a selection of both new and used books, including a whole floor of children's books. They also have a pet cat who likes to lounge around and get petted by the store patrons. I wish more small business owners would bring their pets to work. It was good to pet a cat and think about how and what our two at home were doing.

Anyway, buried deep in the used book section, there's a Bible. Inside it there is a very old, hand typed inscription for its previous owner dated September 1942 and signed only 'Mother.' In the inscription, 'Mother' gives some life instructions and wisdom to her son in what is quite possibly the most beautiful, most elegant analogy I have ever read.

Pecan pie tastes good. Pecan pancakes taste good. Pecans on top of brownies taste good. Pecan candy tastes good. Pecan sandies taste good. Butter pecan ice cream tastes good. Pecan crusted tilapia taste good.

Yes, pecans are good. These three trees probably produce enough pecans for an entire neighborhood for a season. It's amazing how big trees can get when hurricanes aren't a factor.

Well, the sun has set on our visit to Madison, GA. I was amazed at the beauty of this little southern town. It's close enough for a short weekend trip, but it's a whole world away. Some of the oldest homes in the South can be found in Madison. I was told it has the second largest historic distric in GA.

During the civil war, it was home to a pro-union senator called Joshua Hill. Hill had some dealings with General Shermans brother at West Point, and when Hill heard that Sherman was coming, he contacted Sherman's brother and requested a meeting with him. Anyway, Sherman and Hill formed a gentleman's agreement that he would not to burn any "private residences." Sherman honored his end of the agreement. You can still find signs that say "private residence" in front of many of the antebellem homes.

Summer will soon be here on the gulf coast. The azelias are starting to bloom and hopefully old man winter has given way to the warm golden rays which bring the beaches back to life. Spring breakers will be arriving soon, and after that, it'll be family vacationers breathing life into the coastal economy.
